The police in Ogun state have arrested a man identified as Ganiyu Aikore for allegedly impregnating his 17-year-old daughter in the Mokola Isale Tapa area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
Aikore who has been sleeping with his daughter for some time, was exposed after his daughter informed him that she was pregnant after which he went to a pharmacy to procure abortion pills for her.
The victim suspected the drugs her father gave her were to terminate the 23-week old pregnancy so she opened up to some residents of the community who in turn reported the matter to the chairman of the community.
The matter was then taken to the Adatan Police Division where the chairman made a formal complain. The father was immediately arrested and placed in police custody.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the police command, Omolola Odutola, said preliminary investigation showed that Aikore had been having carnal knowledge of his daughter for years.
