Family members of veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, have recounted the circumstances surrounding her sudden death, saying she suffered severe chest pain and breathing difficulties shortly before she passed.

Speaking in a recent interview, her children said the singer performed overnight at an event in Sango, Ogun State, and showed no signs of illness or distress.

According to her daughter, Omowunmi, Saint Janet went to the market the next day and returned home to prepare a meal. Shortly after cooking, she began clutching her chest, complained of discomfort, and noticed irregular breathing.

“She asked to be taken to a medical facility,” Omowunmi said. Doctors administered oxygen on arrival, but her son, Orinayo, said medical staff were unable to stabilise her and she lost her pulse shortly after being admitted.

Her manager and close associates confirmed that she appeared healthy during her last performance and had been active earlier on the day of her passing.

Following her death, the family has set up a committee to handle burial arrangements. Funeral services for the late musician have been scheduled for August 25 and 26, after a nine-day period of prayer and thanksgiving.
