The family of veteran Nollywood actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has announced October 2, 2026, as date for his burial.
According to the burial programme shared by actress Gloria Young, a Night of Tributes will hold on Wednesday, September 30, at 4 p.m. at Glover Memorial Hall, Marina, Lagos Island, with shades of blue as dress code.
The funeral service will follow on Friday, October 2, at 10 a.m. at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, with shades of green as dress code, to be followed by a private interment.
Jacobs, aged 84, died on September 16, 2026, after battling dementia with Lewy bodies. His death was announced by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son, Olusoji.
Ahead of the ceremonies, Silva has formally invited President Bola Tinubu to attend.
In a letter dated September 23, she thanked the President for his condolence message and recognition of Jacobs’ contribution to Nigeria’s creative industry, saying it brought comfort to the family.
“Your Excellency’s presence would be a great honour to our family and would mean a great deal to us as we gather to pay our final respects to a man who devoted over five decades of his life to the arts,” Silva wrote.
Born July 11, 1942, Jacobs trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and built a career spanning over five decades across theatre, television and film before becoming one of Nollywood’s most respected figures.
