The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano State Sector Command, has arrested a man suspected of snatching motorcycles while impersonating a corps official in different parts of the state.

The Sector Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, who disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 said the suspect, identified as Abdullahi Ali from Bela village in Ungoggo Local Government Area of Kano State, was apprehended by the Intelligence Unit of the command following several complaints from members of the public.

According to Labaran, the complaints bordered on the activities of hoodlums allegedly posing as FRSC personnel to unlawfully seize motorcycles under the pretext of conducting patrol operations.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Sector Command, wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of one Abdullahi Ali of Bela Village in Ungogo Local government area of Kano State, a suspected motorcycle snatcher who was disguising as an FRSC staff to perpetrate criminal activities within Kano State,” the statement read.

“The arrest was effected on 19th January 2025 following multiple complaints from members of the public across different locations in Kano State regarding the activities of hoodlums impersonating FRSC personnel to unlawfully arrest motorcycles under the guise of patrol operations.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the FRSC Intelligence Unit arrested the suspect, a resident of Bela Village in Ungogo Local government area, Kano, in connection with the alleged offences.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect forcefully arrested motorcycles while impersonating FRSC personnel, with some of the motorcycles suspected to have been stolen thereafter.

“During the arrest, a fake driver’s licence was recovered from his possession, further confirming the use of false identity to facilitate criminal activities.

“The suspect has since been handed over to the Gwale Divisional Police Station, Kano, for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.

“The FRSC wishes to categorically state that the suspect is not a staff of the Corps, and the public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals posing as law enforcement personnel.

“Members of the public are also encouraged to verify the identity of officers before complying with any enforcement actions.

“The Corps remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.”
