A fake ‘Commander’ parading himself as a Senior Officer of the Nigerian Air Force has been nabbed by Officers of the 209 Quick Response Group of the Nigerian Air Force located at Ipetu Ijesa, Osun State. The fake Officer; a middle aged man, Olusegun Abe was arrested for duping unsuspecting members of the public.

While handling over the suspect to Ondo state Police Command, the Acting Commander of NAF 209 Quick Response Group, Ipetu Ijesha, Osun State, Flight Leautenant Owoche Morphy said, “the suspect, Olusegun Abe, Wrongly wearing the rank of a Wing Commander in the place of Flight Commander was on the verge of defrauding the sister of late Flight Lieutenant Ohai Idonije, by asking her to hand over originals of some sensitive documents of her late NAF pilot brother, which the suspect intends to use in claiming the benefits of the late NAF officer.

“The family member, having suspected a fraudulent intent, contacted the Acting Commander of NAF 209 Quick Response Group, Ipetu Ijesha, Osun State, ultimately leading to the arrest.

“the NAF wishes to inform the general public that the service is a professional and disciplined organization that is focused on the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities”.

He said, “accordingly, NAF will not condone any act of tarnishing it’s image. We therefore, implore the general public and the families of the deceased personnel to continually direct all enquires on payment of death benefits to the Nigerian Military Pension Board Headquarters in Abuja and should desists from engaging intermediaries”.

In his response, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, ASP Tee Leo Ikoro appreciated men of the NAF for the quick response, calling for more synergy.
