There was great excitements amongst scores of sex workers in major parts of Akure; the Ondo State capital; as they benefitted from palliative packages of the government, recently.

The palliatives was facilitated on behalf of the government by the State Chairperson of the National Council of Women Society, Mrs Jumoke Aborode and the CEO of Kids & Teens Resource Centre, Martin-Mary Falana, who were both grateful to the state government for the first batch of distribution which could only cover 3 hot spots across the state

According to a statement released by the Council, it stated that “as the lockdown eases, business are yet to bounce back in full force especially in the hospitality industry. The effect of the lockdown and the curfew greatly hit the sex workers from operation as most customers patronize them at night hours.”

“Passionate about the predicaments of these set of people in the society, we have decided to reach the sex workers who are greatly affected by the lockdown with palliative packages”.

The sex workers in their numbers rejoiced and were filled with joy and gratitude to Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State for remembering them.

They prayed fervently for the Governor and wished him the best in his quest for second term in office, that God will remember him for good.

One of the sex workers, Sandra, thanked Martin-Mary Falana for always being there for them especially during Police raids.

Martin-Mary thanked the leadership of the National Council of Women Societies in Ondo State for embracing these special workers in the state.

“Increase in rape cases in the state can be traced to lockdown of these sex workers” she said.

Mrs Jumoke Aborode; on her part; promised to speak more on their behalf to get more packages to those that have not benefited. She encouraged them to be law abiding with WHO and Government directives, to ensure that none of them contract Coronavirus.
