Bauchi State Government says it has introduced a scientific approach as part of its commitment to improve environmental management and advance public health in the state.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Housing, Honorable Hamisu Muazu Shira announced this at the commissioning ceremony of the first environmental science laboratory in the state designed to test a minimum of 15 parameters of each of the core environmental components.

Honorable Hamisu Shira said the construction of the modern environmental laboratory is in line with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s desire for clean environment and genuine concern for public health.

He applauded the governor for prioritizing the environmental wellbeing of the people of the state and urged stakeholders to support the state government to achieve the set objectives.

“Today marks a change in history. Our streets would seize to be dumping centres for refuse due to lack of designated collections centres. On assumption of office, His Excellency, approved money to us for the construction of six modern collection centres in Bauchi metropolis.”

“Again, most of our waste evacuation trucks in BASEPA were inherited unserviceable. Now, most of these unserviceable trucks are totally overhauled. We thank His Excellency for that.”

The Environment and Housing Commissioner reassured Governor Bala Mohammed of the total support and dedication of the Ministry towards the implementation of the core principles of his administration.

“Clean Up Nigeria” would not be mistaken to have declared Bauchi State as “cleanest” in the entire Northeast zone of Nigeria. Therefore the Award Ceremony today taking place along with the Commissioning of the Environmental Science Laboratory is not a coincidence, but a natural fall-in-line event of “good attracting good.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, while others may be talking of “next level”, His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed has already taken a giant stride into a “higher level” by bringing practical and visible innovations into governance.

Governor Bala Mohammed who commissioned the project at BASEPA headquarters in Bauchi, said government knowing fully well the need for evidence and empirical data in dealing with emerging environmental problems, his administration joined the global trend of responding to issues based on scientific facts.

On his part, the Registrar, Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria, Dr Yakubu Mohammed Baba declared interest to work with the state government to ensure effective waste and environmental management in the state.
