The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N10 billion privacy suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Justice Salim Ibrahim, in his judgment, upheld the respondents’ preliminary objections, ruling that the suit was incompetent and improperly constituted.
The judge also dismissed the substantive suit for lack of proof.
Ike had instituted the action over an alleged breach of his privacy after Olayinka reportedly published details of his voter registration on social media in May.
The post on X was alleged to have exposed confidential information relating to the actor’s transfer of voter registration from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory.
Ike, who sought to contest the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in Abuja in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, lost the party’s primary election.
The actor had accused the FCT minister’s aide of mocking him by sharing his voter registration details online.
However, the court dismissed the suit after upholding the respondents’ objections and finding that the case lacked sufficient proof.
