Ekiti State Government has ordered all commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators to complete biometric registration by July 18, 2026, as part of efforts to boost safety and regulate transport.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kehinde Ajobiewe, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.
He said the biometric exercise will run from July 6, 2026, and will be conducted at Ekiti State Board of Internal Revenue offices across all 16 local government areas.
Upon successful screening and data capture, operators will be issued a valid riding permit.
Officials noted that the project aims to create a comprehensive database of all commercial riders, which will assist in identifying operators and curbing criminal activities linked to unregistered transport services.
Furthermore, the state government intends to use this data to enhance transport planning and service delivery.
Transport union leaders have been urged to mobilize their members to ensure full participation before the deadline.
Commissioner Ajobiewe warned that those who fail to comply and obtain the necessary permits by July 18 will face sanctions in line with state regulations.
The meeting regarding the new mandate was attended by officials from the Ministry of Transportation, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and local transport union leadership.
