The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, says the commission has recovered assets and funds worth N1.3 trillion between June 2023 and June 2026.
He disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.
Olukoyede said the EFCC is currently investigating 234 cases involving Bureau de Change operators, with 72 convictions recorded so far.
According to him, the commission is investigating crimes including advance fee fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, procurement fraud, cybercrime, land and property fraud, and tax fraud.
The EFCC Chairman also defended the commission’s policy on managing asset auctions under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
He announced plans to launch a 24-hour rapid response centre in September for reporting economic crimes.
Olukoyede added that 50 EFCC staff members had been dismissed in the past three years, while five others are facing prosecution for various offences.
