The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has offered to support the Action Against Trafficking In Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Nigeria (A-TIPSOM) to achieve its objective of tackling financial crimes associated with human trafficking and smuggling.
The Executive Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa made the offer on Thursday April 15, 2021 while receiving the Project Leader, Mr. Rafael Rios Molina and his team at the EFCC headquarters, Abuja.
According to him, “We have the capacity to assist you and we will assist you, we will look at the numerous experts we have that can help you”.
Bawa, while identifying the important role the EFCC play in curtailing human trafficking noted that “if finance is involved from any illegal source then of course there is the element of laundering and that is why EFCC is an expert in tracing how the proceeds of crimes are laundered since they are gotten illegitimately”.
The EFCC boss however invited A-TIPSOM to partner with the EFCC Academy in order to develop and improve the capacity of EFCC and other law enforcement agencies.
Molina, an expert from the Spain National Police, said A-TIPSOM which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Spanish Foundation, was designed “to improve the capacity of Nigerian agencies in tackling trafficking and its international network”.
According to him, “we are here to seek collaboration with the EFCC in order to increase the capacity of the Nigerian Officers. To have a good investigation; they need more training in order to increase knowledge about how to make a good financial case”.
The Project will run for two years.
