The Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Habu Gambo on a one- count charge bordering on intent to defraud and fraudulently obtaining the gross sum of N14,907,000 (Fourteen Million Nine Hundred and Seven Thousand Naira).

Gambo was arraigned before Justice Mashkur Salisu of the Federal High Court Jalingo, Taraba State

The charge reads: That you Habu Gambo (a.k.a Abubakar Gambo) sometimes between November 2020 and February 2022 at Jalingo Taraba State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court , with intent to defraud, fraudulently obtained the gross sum of Fourteen Million Nine Hundred and Seven Thousand Naira (N14,907,000) from Sanusi Gado by falsely representing to him that the money is for the business of buying grains, representation which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(b ) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Fraud related offences , act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same act.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, SE Okemini prayed the court for a trial date. However, counsel to the defendant, Sale Abdullahi moved a motion for bail for his client which was opposed by the prosecution on the ground that he had earlier jumped an administrative bail granted him by the EFCC.

Justice Salisu thereafter remanded the defendant at Jalingo Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to February 20, 2025 for commencement of trial.
