As part of ongoing efforts to position Edo State as a leading hub in the Nigeria’s Gas Sector, the Edo State Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources has held a strategic meeting with Clairgold Engineering Limited at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Benin City, to chat clear-cut initiatives aimed at developing the Sector.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Oil and Gas Resources, Hon. Andrew Momodu, highlighted the vast gas deposits domiciled in Edo State, emphasizing the importance of harnessing and developing such resources to drive economic growth and sustainable development within the State. He reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at maximizing the opportunities within the Gas Sector for the benefit of the State and its people.

The Commissioner noted that the expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure aligns with the global transition towards cleaner energy sources. He explained that increased accessibility and availability of CNG would provide residents with a more affordable energy alternative, reduce energy costs, and contribute significantly to environmental sustainability through carbon emission reduction initiatives and carbon credit opportunities.

Hon. Momodu asserted that strategic investments in gas development would stimulate human capital development, strengthen technical capacity within the State, create employment opportunities, and enhance revenue generation, thereby contributing to the State’s overall economic advancement.

During the engagement, the Clairgold Engineering delegation led by its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr. Enilama Victor, presented its proposed gas development initiative in Edo State, highlighting the immense potential of the State’s gas reserves, particularly within the Oben axis in Orhionmwon Local Government Area.

The presentation outlined plans aimed at establishing gas infrastructure that would support the distribution and accessibility of CNG across the State, including the development of facilities designed to improve the transportation and supply of CNG, ultimately encouraging wider adoption of cleaner energy solutions among residents and businesses.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources, Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Akhigbe, commended Clairgold Engineering for its interest in investing in Edo State’s Gas Sector and reaffirmed the State Government’s openness to strategic partnerships that promote sustainable development. She encouraged the Company to clearly define areas where government collaboration may be required to facilitate the successful implementation of the proposed initiative.

The engagement underscored the Edo State Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources’ commitment to attracting investments, driving innovation, and fostering partnerships that will accelerate the growth of the State’s Oil and Gas Industry.
