Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has commissioned the first computerized vehicle inspection center in Benin City in a significant move towards enhancing road safety.

At the commissioning on Tuesday, Governor Obaseki said the centre will help improve the worthiness of vehicles in the State, ensuring they are in good shape so as to minimize accidents

While emphasizing the strategic location of Edo as a major transit point, Obaseki said “Edo State’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s transportation makes infrastructure development in this sector not just a priority but a necessity,”

Prince Segun Obayendo, Managing Director of Temple Group Limited praised the vision behind the initiative.

He said “Governor Obaseki’s foresight not only aims at compliance but at setting new benchmarks in road safety,” he remarked, highlighting the project’s ambition beyond mere regulatory adherence.

“We’re not just aiming for local compliance; we’re positioning Nigerian vehicles for global standards, potentially enhance the state’s economic prospects through vehicle export capabilities to neighbouring African countries.”

According to him, the centre is strategically positioned at KLM 6 opposite the Magistrate Court with a capacity to process up to 150 vehicle inspections daily thereby addressing long-standing compliance issues with Nigeria’s National Road Traffic Law.

He stated further that the initiative comes in response to rising road accidents often linked to vehicle malfunctions, reflecting a broader strategy aligned with global safety practices.

Obayendo however revealed the state government  plans to establish similar centers in Auchi and Ekpoma in a bid to not only improve safety but also enhance the state’s economic prospects.

The event was also graced by Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor, Managing Director of the Edo State Transport Authority, whose presence added to the event’s significance.
