The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has warned Nigerians against making comments on social media that they cannot defend.
In a post shared on X, Adejobi reminded Nigerians of the existence of the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015 which gives the court the jurisdiction to sentence anyone found guilty of making social media comments and claims they cannot defend in court.
Adejobi said the police are out for people who make careless and sarcastic comments online and that the police will get such people one by one no matter whose ox is gored.
“Many talk carelessly and sarcastically on social media. Don’t say what you can’t defend. It could be criminal. Remember, we have the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015. Be warned.
“We are out for them. We will get them one by one, and we won’t care whose ox is gored. Cyberstalking, cyberbullying, fake news, or misinformation are all offences and punishable under the law in Nigeria.”
