Popular Nollywood actor turned politician, Desmond Eliot, is facing serious attacks following his comment justifying godfatherism.

Elliot had condemned the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki over his re-election mantra “Edo no be Lagos” and said that he would have not become a governor if not for godfatherism.

“A godfather always tries to look after the interest of his people. I’m a product of godfatherism but Tinubu has never for one day asked me to do something you know would be detrimental,” he said.

“It’s progressive. So, let him (Obaseki) not castigate the whole thing. If not for godfatherism, would he be where he is today? My point isn’t even about him; it’s that I want to talk about my candidate,” Elliot said.

His remark has infuriated Nigerians as many have taken to Twitter to troll the sitting Lagos State House of Assembly member.

I’m a product of Tinubu's godfatherism. Edo must be like Lagos.

The more I read his quotes, I lose hope for the younger generation.

Is this Omoale amongst the youths we are trying to elevate ?

For me, there is no difference

Many of you are just insulting Desmond Elliot based on headlines not the news. He said he's a product of godfatherism and that's true, he also said and he's not a bad choice, that's also true, lastly the statement was made to counter Obaseki's Edo no be Lagos mantra.

Desmond Elliot should've just kept quiet instead of talking like a programmed robot, bereft of sense, as 95% of them are. How do we progress as a nation if young politicians think godfatherism is the only way to political office?
