Operatives from the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two young men suspected of violent cult activities during a late-night raid.

The suspects, identified as 26-year-old Okonkwo Prosper and 25-year-old Tuesday Emmanuel, both residents of Aniofu in Aniocha North Local Government Area, were captured during a coordinated operation.

Acting on credible intelligence, police forces raided a suspected criminal hideout in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, close to midnight on Friday.

According to an official statement released by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer on Sunday, a thorough search of the hideout yielded significant contraband. Law enforcement officers recovered an English pump-action gun loaded with five live cartridges, a cutlass, various charms, and a cache of suspected illicit drugs.

Initial police investigations suggest that the detained individuals are active members of a local cult gang linked to a recent wave of violent clashes in Ibusa and neighboring communities.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, confirmed that the suspects remain in custody while a manhunt is underway to arrest fleeing accomplices.

Reaffirming the command’s stance against violent crime, Oyeniyi warned individuals involved in cultism to renounce their memberships or face prosecution.

He also urged state residents to maintain a strong partnership with law enforcement by sharing timely information to aid proactive policing.
