Delta State Government has commenced the development of the Delta State Agro Industrial park located at Aboh – Ogwashi in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The State Commissioner for information, Charles Anagwu said it is in continued efforts of government to ensure that the economy of the State is diversified to generate employment, create atmosphere for social activities and make the State an economic hub.
Conducting Pressmen round the Park, Anagwu stated that the choice of the location was carefully made in order to maximize the gains accruable from the Park.
The Commissioner stated that the presence of water for irrigation, accessibility to the site through good road, closeness to the Asaba International Airport and availability of land were some of the key factors considered before choosing Aboh –Ogwashi for the project which is expected to greatly make the State not to overly run a mono economy.
Speaking further, the Commissioner who was accompanied by the Chief Job Creation Officer, Professor Eric Eboh stated that when functional, the park will be of enormous benefit to Deltans especially those that were involved in the Agricultural sector since their produce that used to go waste after sometime could be bought from them to be processed in the park, generate employment especially for the youths and reduce social vices attributed to lack of proper engagements.
Mr. Aniagwu also stated that apart from all that the State Government has been doing to create jobs, the Agro Industrial which is expected to house rice fields and processing factory will have other factories engaged in other Agro allied products, thus the park is expected to be all encompassing in terms of producing and processing of different Agricultural products.
The Chief Job Creation Officer while speaking to the Journalists earlier stated that the land which has 220 acres of land will be used for rice farming and processing while other partners will participate in the production and processing of other Agro allied products like Cassava, Yams, among others.
This is expected to be achieved through direct producing/processing of the products as well as partnering with other farmers within the State to source for raw materials which will be processed into finished products not only for local consumption but for export.
