A Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Bukar Dalori, has replaced Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the party.
This followed the resignation of ex-Kano governor Ganduje as the party chairman on Thursday.
In a swift response, President Bola Tinubu directed Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman (North), to assume the role of Acting National Chairman, pending a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to address the vacancy, according to a statement by National Publicity Secretary, APC, Felix Morka.
“His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters,” Morka said.
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.
The APC’s statement reaffirmed its commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with Morka assuring party faithful, “We remain steadfast and unwavering in our mission to deliver transformative governance for all Nigerians.”
The NWC extended gratitude to Ganduje, praying for “his good health, and success in his future endeavours in service of the nation and humanity.”
Ganduje, from the North-West zone, assumed leadership of the party in August 2023, following the resignation of his predecessor, Abdullahi Adamu, from the North Central zone.
His tenure faced increasing resistance from within, particularly from those who viewed his appointment as a violation of the party’s internal zoning arrangements.
Ganduje was Kano governor from May 2015 to May 2023. In January 2025, Tinubu appointed him as the Board Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). He was also reportedly penciled as a non-career ambassadorial nominee.
