The Niger/Kogi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has succeeded in intercepting and handing over 317 packages of compressed Marijuana, weighing 253.6kg, to the Niger State Commander of the Nigerian Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Disclosing the development to the newsmen on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters in Minna, Niger state, the Area Controller, Comptroller Busayo Kadejo explained that the estimated street value of the seized cannabis is ₦20,605,000.

Comptroller Kadejo, who frowned at the atrocious activities of drug lords in the country, said that while his Officers and Men are striving to protect the nation socially and economically, some people are tirelessly showing enmity toward this development.

According to him, the interception of the illicit packages was due to swift action by his men, adding that “if the packages had escaped our eyes, they would have helped in the execution and sustenance of crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, thuggery, and other social vices.”

He urged members of the community to be extra vigilant in supervising strange movements and sending signals to Law Enforcement Agencies whenever they feel uncomfortable with anything, to avoid plunging into catastrophe during this year’s general elections.

Comptroller Kadejo also commended the citizens who pursue legitimate businesses despite the harrowing economic realities of the moment, adding that the Nigeria Customs Service will strengthen its fight against smuggling.

While handing over the seized illicit packages to the Niger State Commander of the NDLEA, Comptroller Kadejo however saluted the prompt intervention to the needs of the Command by the Comptroller General of Customs Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali Rtd. (CFR) and his management team.
