Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has held a COVID19 sensitisation/ Stakeholders’ meeting tagged the “Second Wave” of the curative aspect.
This is to effectively take charge in driving the fight against COVID-19 and administering the vaccine across the state.
The meeting had in attendance the media, members of Non-Government Organisations and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) was held at Africa House, Government House, Kano.
The Governor while addressing them said the groups are critical stakeholders when it comes to Vaccination exercise.
“We have exhausted our first wave of our curative strategy during the first wave of the COVID-19. We are now in the second wave of our curative strategy. And we will do our best to fight the pandemic, with all commitment,” he said.
He referred that, the state won the fight against COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic. Assuring that, the state is not relenting when second wave came calling. Adding that, “We also need to consolidate these successes through our concerted efforts in this second wave.”
Governor Ganduje called on members of the fourth estate of the realm, the media to work tirelessly in creating all the necessary awareness for public to come forth for vaccination, emphasising that, “Your role is significant in the fight against COVID-19. So this vaccination stage is very important. We all need to partner and work together against this pandemic.”
For non-government organisations and other community based organisations, he called on them to join hands with government and the media to help in consolidating the successes so far recorded in the fight against COVID-19.
“Being that you are very close to the grassroots, your role is very important at this stage of second wave and vaccination exercise,” he urged.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, hinted that, “So far we have started training personnel who will go to field for the vaccination exercise across all the 44 local governments. We have so far received 209,520 doses of the vaccine, as first batch.”
Dr Tijjani Hussaini, the Lead of the State Technical Team disclosed that, “All the 484 Wards across the 44 local governments in the state are captured for the registration of the vaccination exercise.”
For the security of the exercise, he called on people to always report any suspicious movements around vaccination centres, when the exercise takes-off fully.
At the meeting with traditional rulers and Islamic Clerics, after finishing with the media and NGOs, governor Ganduje reminded them of their all-important role in the society. Urging them to continue with the good intervention they started, since the first wave of the pandemic.
“Your continued intervention in creating awareness among your people, will go a long way in making the exercise a success. So also our Scholars and other community leaders. You have an important role to play in this exercise and beyond,” he said.
Governor Ganduje also met with local government chairmen and leaders of transporters associations, students leaders and academia.
While with the local government chairmen, governor Ganduje directed them to work hand in hand with their communities and all other stakeholders in creating awareness for the vaccination exercise.
“We are aware how our local governments chairmen are doing their best in complementing all our efforts. We know that you have your style of reaching to the grassroots. We commend you for that,” he appreciated.
He also called on the leaders of transporters in the meeting to make sure that they assist government achieve the desired goals of making the state healthier. So also market leaders were called upon by the governor to work tirelessly and help in creating the needed awareness.
Students leaders and members of the academia were the next set of people slated for the meeting. He assured that his administration would do everything possible to see that the vaccination exercise succeed.
