Nigeria has recorded 338 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday 17 , this was made known via a tweet by the NCDC, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 5,959
The tweet stipulated that 177 of the new cases were recorded in Lagos, 64 in Kano, 21 in FCT, 16 in Rivers, 14 in Plateau, 11 in Oyo, 9 in Katsina 4 each in Jigawa and Kaduna, while Abia, Bauchi and Borno have 3 cases each, Gombe, Akwa Ibom and Delta have 2 each, then the trio of Ondo, Kebbi and Sokoto recorded one case each.
The center further stated that 1,594 successfully recovered patients of COVID-19 have been discharged while the death toll from the pandemic across the nation stands at 182.
The national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, had earlier said on Sunday that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to address Nigerians on Monday over the pandemic.
It is not certain whether the president will further ease the lockdown across the country despite the increase in the toll since his last broadcast to the nation.
Over 300,000 people have died from the novel coronavirus since it first broke out in China in December 2019. The United States has the highest number of deaths overall, Britain has the second-highest toll, followed by Italy, then France and Spain.
