Despite the federal and states government efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus and flattening the curve in Nigeria, the number of cases recorded have continue to increase as the nation records new 313 infections.
The information which was announced by the National Center for Disease Control via its twitter handle explained that the new cases were recorded from 12 states and FCT bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 7,839 with 2,263 successful recoveries and 226 fatalities.
According to the NCDC, Lagos which is the epic center of the pandemic in Nigeria recorded the highest as usual with 148 cases, other affected regions were FCT- with 36 cases, 27 in Rivers, 19 in Edo, 13 in Kano,12 in Ogun, 11 in Ebonyi, 8 each in Nasarawa and Delta, 7 in Oyo, 6 in Plateau, 5 in Kaduna, 4 in Kwara, 3 each Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa, 2 in Niger, and 1 in Anambra.
Meanwhile in Lagos, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the discharge of another 31 COVID-19 patients (12 females and 19 males, all Nigerians) on Sunday after successful treatment. In a brief social media statement the governor expressed his delight about the incident and also thanked the state’s front line health workers for the remarkable progress made.
He further urged all Lagosians and Nigerians not to relent in the battle against the global pandemic, emphazing the need to continue to practice good hygiene, wear a mask and observe social distancing in gatherings
“If we continue to do the right things and obey the stipulated public health safety guidelines, the chain of #COVID19 transmission can be broken in our State.” He said.
