COVID-19: Nigeria Records 373 New Cases ,10 Deaths

Nigeria recorded 373 COVID-19 cases on Thursday pushing the total infections in the country to 48,116.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this in its latest update about the pandemic.

According to NCDC,a total of 10 people lost their lives to the virus in the last 24 hrs increasing the death toll to 966 while 366 were successfully treated and discharged in the last 24 hrs raising the number to 34,309.

The cases on Thursday were confirmed in nineteen states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Nigeria’s COVID-19 epicentre, Lagos State, had 69 fresh cases, while Osun and Kaduna states reported 40 and 41 infections respectively.

Other states with new cases include Oyo – 40; FCT – 35; Plateau – 22; Rivers – 19; Kano – 17; Ondo – 17; Ogun – 15; Abia – 14; Gombe – 12 and Imo – 9, Enugu -7, Kwara – 6; Delta – 5; Niger – 2; Borno – 1; Bauchi – 1; and Nasarawa – 1.

According to NCDC statistics, eight states including Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Edo, Delta, Kano, Rivers and Ogun are responsible for over 70 per cent of the cases recorded.

A breakdown of the cases by state by NCDC

Nigerians are advised not to be tired in complying with the COVID-19 preventive guidelines from the NCDC.

“Wearing face masks could prevent nearly 75,000 COVID-19 deaths in Africa. Over 600 coronavirus deaths could be prevented in Nigeria if people adhere to non-pharmaceutical preventive measures,” it stated.
