It was with palpable joy that the people of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State received the team of the state government’s officials who brought food palliatives to the ancient town on Wednesday, April 2, 2020, for onward distribution to respective beneficiaries.

The event which took place at the Palace of the Owa of Idanre, attracted guests which comprised of political actors from the major political parties, artisans, market leaders, trade union leaders, and hundreds of community folks.

Anchored by the Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Mr. Yemi Olowolabi; who is also the Chairman of the Idanre Local Government Food Palliatives Committee, the programme went smoothly as he ensured that the distribution of the palliatives cut across the various interest groups like market women, drivers, religious groups, traditional rulers, artisans, visually impaired and physically challenged people. Personally making the presentation of these palliatives, Mr. Olowolabi reiterated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s directives that the palliatives were meant for the poor and vulnerable people in the society. He used the opportunity to call on the people to strictly follow the guidelines given by the government to stop the spread of the CoronaVirus like regular hand washing, staying at home, and avoidance of crowded gatherings. He also assured the people that more batches were still coming because the Governor holds the welfare of the people in his heart.

In his remarks, His Royal Majesty, Oba Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV (JP) OFR, the Owa of Idanre and Paramount Ruler of Idanre Kingdom, lauded Governor Akeredolu for the kind gesture. He particularly expressed his delight that the distribution was done without recourse to political party affiliations.

Towing the appreciative line of this foremost traditional ruler, beneficiaries at the event were full of gratitude to the Governor; as they gleefully went home with their food palliatives, knowing fully well that the harsh effects of the ‘stay-at-home’ order of the government have been properly cushioned.
