A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has ordered the remand of three suspects linked to the murder of retired Ogun State Television broadcaster, Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, and her guard, Pelumi Adetayo, for 60 days.
Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo of Court 3 gave the order on Monday while ruling on an ex parte application filed by the police for the prosecution of Sodeinde Olajunwon Phillip, Sobu Obafunsho and Shakirudeen Ayoola.
The Legal Officer of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, AS Abiodun, told the court that the application was brought pursuant to Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice and Other Matters Law, Ogun State 2017.
He urged the court to grant leave to remand the respondents at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Oba, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice, Ogun State.
Abiodun said a 24-paragraph affidavit deposed by ASP Saka of the Homicide Section, along with 17 exhibits and a written address, were attached to the application. He asked the court to grant the request in the interest of justice.
The Chief Magistrate granted the relief sought and ordered that the suspects be remanded pending the DPP’s advice.
The late broadcaster and her guard were found dead in a pool of blood at her Agodo residence in June. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly claimed they killed Oyesiku “to teach her a lesson.”
