The Benue State High Court has issued a restraining order preventing the All Progressives Congress, APC, from dissolving the State Executive Committee, led by Austin Agada.
The court’s decision comes amidst escalating political tensions between Agada and the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
Governor Alia, who has reportedly formed a faction within the APC, recently appointed the State Welfare Officer, Benjamin Omakolo, as acting chairman, in a move seen as a direct challenge to Agada’s leadership.
In response to this power struggle, Agada turned to the court, seeking to protect his position and prevent any attempts to prematurely terminate his tenure before the completion of his four-year term.
Justice Theresa Igoche, presiding over the case, ruled in favour of Agada, granting an order that restrains the national leadership of the APC, along with its agents and representatives, from removing or replacing Agada and other members of the Benue State Working Committee.
This order is set to remain in effect until the expiration of Agada’s term or pending the resolution of the substantive case.
