The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has inspected the ongoing construction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II to assess the pace of work, construction standards and compliance with approved specifications.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele in a statement on Saturday, October 17 said the inspection was held on Friday October 16, 2026.
The unscheduled inspection according to Col Anele underscores the COAS’s determination to accelerate infrastructure development and address accommodation challenges confronting Nigerian Army personnel and their families.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu inspected residential accommodation blocks, internal road networks, water reticulation systems and other essential facilities designed to provide a conducive living environment for personnel. He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on construction progress, implementation challenges and expected completion timelines.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved, the Army Chief charged contractors to sustain the momentum, maintain high construction standards and ensure timely delivery without compromising quality.
He stressed that infrastructure projects must deliver lasting value and meet the welfare needs of troops and their families.
The COAS noted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, named in honour of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, represents a significant intervention in the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to bridge accommodation gaps, enhance living conditions and boost personnel morale.
He reaffirmed that the provision of modern residential facilities and other welfare infrastructure remains central to his vision of building a highly motivated, professional, resilient and combat-ready Army capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities.
