A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has joined in condemning the burning and destruction of the Ubima Ward secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), located in Rotimi Amaechi’s community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a statement made available on Saturday, Eze said Amaechi was expected in his ward on Friday for his official membership registration with the party at the ADC secretariat when a gang of political thugs invaded the facility, unleashing mayhem, destroying everything on sight before finally setting the office ablaze.
It was gathered that the incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday, just a few moments to Amaechi’s arrival for the ceremony.
Describing the action as undemocratic, Eze called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Eze quoted Amaechi while addressing his supporters who thonged the venue to receive him as appealing for calm, urging his loyalists to resist any temptation toward reprisal or disorder.
‘Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody — don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community’, he said.
According to him, deespite the charged atmosphere, Amaechi expressed satisfaction with the conduct of security operatives deployed to the area, singling out the state Commissioner of Police and the director of the Department of State Services for praise.
Eze blamed the incident on President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
