The incident caused panic as schools moved quickly to evacuate learners.

The situation involved pupils and students in several schools within the town. Emergency teams and school officials responded, and affected students were taken to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for treatment after reports of discomfort.

Medical staff said many of the students complained of stomach pain and nausea after exposure to the odour. Parents gathered at hospitals as concerns grew over what caused the smell.

The state education authority has asked parents to stay calm while health workers continue treatment. Environmental officials have also begun checks to determine the source of the odour and assess air quality in the area.

An environmental agency in Ogun State said monitoring equipment recorded unusual gas levels in parts of the town. It said the readings were significant and required further technical checks.

Officials added that a joint team of health and environmental workers has been deployed to continue investigations and guide public safety measures.
