The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s efforts at national development and inclusivity.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Grand Finale of the CBCN/ICCABA 2026 Synod at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
President General of CBCN, Archbishop Prof. Leonard Bature Kawas, said the Church had examined the administration’s record and was prepared to support the President through prayers, advocacy and public engagement.
“We support him now. We support him today, we support him tomorrow, and we support him for as long as he’s willing to be our president,” Kawas said.
“This house has endorsed him for 2027 presidency.”
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who delivered the keynote, urged religious leaders to promote peace, unity and responsible citizenship ahead of 2027.
“No election should be allowed to turn Christian against Muslim, Muslim against Christian, North against South, or one ethnic group against another. Nigeria belongs to all of us,” Idris said.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to religious freedom and security, noting that about 1,000 terrorist elements were eliminated in Q1 2026 and 308 abductees were rescued in Niger and Kwara in August.
Idris also listed FG youth programmes including NELFUND, 3MTT, NYIF and iDICE, urging churches to deepen contributions to education, healthcare and empowerment.
Representing the President, SGF Senator George Akume commended the Church for its role in peacebuilding and assured Nigerians that economic reforms would yield better household incomes.
