According to an eyewitness, the driver picked up the three suspects along Mbukpa Road in Calabar South and was heading towards Calabar Municipality when they ordered him to stop and hand over his car keys.

When he refused, the assailants stabbed him. The injured driver managed to drive into a nearby fuel station with blood on his body before the suspects fled the scene.

Passersby rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.

He assured that efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The police urged members of the public with useful information to come forward to aid investigation.
