Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has called for respect for fundamental human rights in line of duty carried out by personnels of the Nigerian Police Force, in the State.
The Governor made the call on Thursday while receiving the new Police Commissioner ,Echeng E. Echeng and his entourage in Yenagoa.
The Governor welcome the new Commissioner said government is ready to work together with the police force to ensure security if life and properties of Bayelsans.
“On behalf of the prosperity administration and the people of Bayelsa, I welcome you to Bayelsa State, the glory of all lands in Nigeria.
“I am happy that you are already familiar with the terrain, and very knowledgeable about the state, so we must work hand in glove to ensure security of Bayelsa State.
“I will like to say it again that criminality has no colouration or political party; a criminal is a criminal, together, our government’s policy for zero tolerance on crime and criminality will be successfully achieved.
“We have been talking to investors both locally and foreign, and the question that come up are always issues of security challenges.
“A lot of people are prepared to come to Bayelsa, even for foreign direct investments, and that can only come through if our security is safe both for Nigerians and non-Nigerians.
“And therefore, I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to Bayelsans that security is not meant for only the Police or other security agencies, and that all of us in our own rights as citizens of this country, and as indigenes of Bayelsa State, we owe it as a duty to ensure that we report anything that signifies insecurity in wherever we we find ourselves.
“I would like to also urge you that in your line of duty, do well to respect the fundamental rights of the humans we want to protect.”
