Bauchi state government on Friday announced the approval of the sum of five million naira for the settlement of hospital bills of orphans and vulnerable children across the state.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed announced this at the distribution of starter packs to 200 most vulnerable adolescent OVC/Caregivers.

The governor explained that, the amount covered purchase of essential drugs to hard to reach areas which are domiciled in primary health centres.

He also announced the approval for the purchase of food items on monthly basis to be distributed to OVCs across the twenty Local Government Areas of the state as part of effort to uplift the socioeconomic status of the beneficiaries to enable them compete favourably with other citizens of the state.

“I feel highly delighted to be part of this historic event of the presentation of starter packs after the concluded intensive skills acquisition training organized by BASOVCA. This event is very important to this Government due to the fact that, we value empowerment through skills acquisitions at all levels.”

He said in the last empowerment training, the state government has distributed one hundred and fifty starter packs to the beneficiaries to enhance the economic capacity of vulnerable household to be self reliant.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House Bauchi, Dr Ladan Salihu said the skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development training is designed to help individuals to contribute to the attainment of eradicating abject poverty and poverty.

Governor Bala Mohammed congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to make judicious utilisation of the items provided to them for economic development.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to this famous agency for successfully organizing and conducting training to beneficiaries. I believe it will go along way in improving the economic strength of the OVCs.”

The governor mentioned that, each beneficiary will be given a start-up packs with Trade Test Certificate of competence class (3) and a capital of ten thousand naira only as a take off fund to enable the beneficiaries continue with the business in skills acquired.

Others who spoke at the ceremony are the state first lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed and the Chairperson of the Agency, Mrs Hassan Arkilla.
