Rampaging bandits have killed six people and wounded nine others in a Friday night attack on Gwarjo community in Matazu local government area of Katsina state.

Matazu was not among the frontline local government areas battling insecurity in the state but has recently been witnessed bandits’ attacks, reason the state government included the area alongside Musawa local government in the order banning telecommunications network in some areas.

A source, Musa Abdullahi, said the bandits came around 9pm and stayed up till 1am.

“They came around 9pm and immediately they drove into the village, they started shooting into the air. The six people were killed during the sporadic shooting while nine of our people have been severely wounded” he said.

He added that the nine wounded persons have been taken to the General Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital and General Hospital in Katsina for treatment.

According to him, those killed include: Abdu Bahillace, Ali Niga, Bello Yusuf, Dan Asabe Ubi, Sanin Ayya and Abdullahi Bello.

While those wounded were Lawal Muhammad, Abubakar Sada, Muhammadu Sani, Isyaku Yahaya, Muawiya Dogon Zikri, Gambo Anas, Buhari Mamman, Ibrahim Garba and Mamuda Yahya.

During a plenary at the State House of Assembly last week, member representing Matazu, Ibrahim Umar, called on the state government to review its ban on mobile telecommunications network, arguing that it bars residents from seeking for help from security agents during attack.
