The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed an attack by bandits on an Immigration checkpoint at Mamman Suka village in Gwadabawa Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the checkpoint along Sokoto/ Illela road at around 7 pm on July 28, 2023, shot two Immigration officers dead and abducted others.
Spokesman of the State Police command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the incident on Sunday morning, July 30.
He said that some other officers who sustained gunshot injuries were rushed to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital Sokoto.
The PPRO further said five rifles were recovered by the immigration officers from the gunmen and are currently at the immigration headquarters office in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Immigration Service Illela Border Command, Bello Mohammed, also confirmed the incident.
“We are currently in hospital please with the wounded, I will give you a call later. We are sorting out things to know the degree of the attack and the number of casualties. ” he said.
One of the deceased has been identified as Bello Adamu (Bello Anka)
