Bandits have abducted the lawmaker representing Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara at the State House of Assembly, Aminu Ardo Jangebe, his wife and their four children.

The gunmen who stormed the lawmaker’s residence in Jangebe community on Thursday, December 8, 2022, also kidnapped two of his neighbours identified as Alhaji Yahaya and Sa,adu Mainama.

According to an indigene of the town, Sani Abubakar, the bandits invaded the town around 11 o’clock pm on Thursday and began to shoot sporadically to scare away people.

Abubakar explained that many people took to their heels on hearing the gunshots, while others shut their doors to avoid abduction.

He said the bandits went straight to the residence of Aminu Ardo where they broke the gate to gain entry.

“Immediately the bandits entered into the house, they abducted the wife of the Honourable member and his four children. As they were coming out of the house, they spotted two of his neighbours, MalamYahaya and Sa,adu Mainama who they also abducted,” he said.

Abubakar said the bandits also took away a motorcycle belonging to one of the abducted persons.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, confirmed the incident to BBC Hausa.

A resident identified as Shafiu Lawal whose brother escaped the assault told newsmen that the armed men stormed the residence of the lawmaker around 11:pm.

“They began to hit the gate and few minutes later they broke into the residence.

“My brother was inside and when he learnt about their arrival, he jumped over a fence and hid in the neighborhood,” he said.

“They thought the lawmaker was around. When they could not find him they went away with his three daughters, wife and a son.

” They later moved to neighborhood and kidnapped three persons there”.

“The lawmaker was in the community on Thursday evening but left for Talata Mafara town for a meeting.

” It looked like he was the prime target of the assailants.

” This is because they searched some neighbouring houses thinking that he might have hid there.

“They went with some nursing mothers but were released later.

“They asked one of the kidnapped victims to guide them back home,” Lawal added.
