Niger East Senator, Mohammed Musa has said that the Federal Government and security agencies should question controversial Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi how he has contacts to reach bandits terrorising some parts of the North.
Musa said this while speaking on Channels TV programme, Politics Today, on Tuesday. Recall that Gumi had on some occasions met with bandits in forests to negotiate the release of kidnapped victims. The cleric had also warned the Federal Government against declaring bandits as terrorists, adding that the action will come at a “price.”
Speaking during the programme, Musa said “I won’t say we know them (bandits). Just as we said, they have cells and they have a kind of leadership structure in their cells.
“I would recall that one of the renowned Islamic scholars, Sheikh Gumi, was at a time going into the forests to meet with these people.
“I think somebody like Gumi should be asked how he has contacts to reach these people. And if he can reach these people, why is it that he has not been able to help the government to get these people neutralised?”
