The Governor expressed confidence about the metering system, which allowed electricity consumers to pay only for what they have consumed thereby boosting other businesses and enhancing industrialization.

He affirmed government’s readiness to support and cooperate with Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, KAEDCO for the benefit of the people of Kebbi state.

Governor Bagudu as Director Representing North West Zone in the Niger Delta Power Holding Company commended KAEDCO for its choice of Kebbi state to flag off the National Mass Metering Programme.

In a remark, the Special Adviser on Energy, Alhaji Yusuf Haruna Rasheed thanked the Governor for providing financial support for securing round-the-clock power supply to the state.

He said the governor had procured transformers and other facilities to improve electricity in the state and fill the gap in unpaid bills.

Rasheed however appealed to the Federal Government to reduce electricity tariff in Kebbi state for bearing the bulk of power lines from Kainji and Jebba to servicing other parts of the country including Republic of Niger.

On his part the Managing Director of KAEDCO Engineer Garba Haruna (Garkuwan Kabi) said the metering initiative was conceived by the Federal Government to ensure that all customers using electricity are provided with meter to avoid bill estimation.

Haruna who announced that more than 500,000 meters would be installed in the KAEDCO area of coverage of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states, also said that 2,000 youths would be engaged and trained to install the meters in Kebbi state.

After the flag off the Managing-Director conducted the Governor round facilities which include IC room facilities and new meters of three categories. At the event a new prepaid meter was fixed to the residence of Mallam Faruku Sahabi Gwadangaji to mark the flag-off.
