Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be his final attempt to become President of Nigeria.*
Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, said if he loses the 2027 poll he will not contest again. He had earlier described the upcoming election as his “last shot” at the presidency.
The declaration brings to a close his long-running ambition for the nation’s top office. Atiku has contested the presidency several times, including on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2019 and 2023, before defecting to the ADC ahead of 2027.
He is expected to face President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other contenders in the election.
The statement has drawn attention amid Atiku’s decades-long pursuit of the presidency and the growing contest among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election.
