Troops of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 4 Operation DELTA SAFE, have intercepted a vehicle conveying suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, during an anti-oil bunkering patrol in Akwa Ibom State.
The operation took place at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, 26 July 2026, along the Onna–Etinan Road, following surveillance of an Infiniti Jeep with registration number EPE 937 EY.
A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, said the suspect attempted to flee on sighting the troops but later abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the bush.
During a search, troops found 40 nylon bags containing approximately 1,200 litres of suspected illegally refined AGO valued at ₦2,256,000.
The recovered products and vehicle were secured in line with the Operation DELTA SAFE mandate. The operation was concluded without incident
