Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have dismantled identified IPOB/ESN strongholds in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing one terrorist and recovering weapons and IED-making materials.*
The operation was conducted on Saturday, 22 August 2026, in conjunction with the Maritime Component, Department of State Services, DSS, and the Anambra Vigilante Group.
A statement issued by the Joint Task Force said the coordinated dawn offensive targeted Obene Village and Abator Village within Ochuche and Umunankwo communities.
On sighting the advancing troops, the terrorists opened fire before abandoning their positions and fleeing into surrounding terrain. Troops responded with superior firepower and pursued the fleeing elements. Blood stains observed along the withdrawal route indicated that some of the terrorists sustained gunshot wounds.
During the pursuit, troops neutralized one terrorist while other fleeing members escaped with the corpse of another neutralized member. The assault effectively dislodged the group from its strongholds.
A search of the locations led to the recovery of two pump-action guns, two motorcycles, IED-making materials and other sundry items.
The JTF described the seizure of the explosive-making materials as a significant operational gain, noting it degrades the terrorists’ capacity to fabricate devices for attacks against security forces, critical infrastructure and civilians.
Troops have consolidated their positions and intensified exploitation of surrounding areas to track fleeing members and prevent regrouping.
The Nigerian Army said Operation UDO KA remains committed to sustaining pressure on terrorist and criminal networks across the South East to deny them safe havens and create a more secure environment for law-abiding citizens.
