Arik Air and Aero Contractors have announced that they will be operating all their scheduled flights on Monday, May 9, 2022 saying they won’t join the planned withdrawal of airlines on Monday by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) over hike in aviation fuel.
The AON had said airline operators would on Monday withdraw their services in protest of hike in JET A1 fuel.
Arik Air and Aero Contractor are the third and fourth airline operators to pull out of the planned suspension of flight.
Ibom Air and Dana Air had earlier announced that they would continue operation on Monday, pulling out of the AON arrangement.
Arik Air and Aero Contractor, in a joint statement on Sunday said they would not be part of the withdrawal of services on Monday.
“Arik Air Limited (In Receivership) and Aero Contractors (In Receivership) wish to bring to the notice of the traveling public that both airlines will be operating all their scheduled flights on Monday, May 9, 2022,” the statement reads.
The statement added that both managements fully identified with and endorsed the efforts of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to bring about a conducive operating environment for Nigerian carriers as the current price of JET A1 was unsustainable and could result in the untimely demise of most airlines.
They said, however, they had assurances that the government was looking at the issues raised by the AON and would come up with a decision that would be in the best interest of the industry and the traveling public.
The statement added that passengers who were booked to travel on both Arik Air Aero Contractors tomorrow and beyond should proceed to their airports of departure to board.
