The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, South-East zone, has alleged that terrorists, armed herdsmen, and violent criminal gangs flushed out from other parts of the country now consider the South-East the softest and safest place to relocate and establish their new bases.

The party claimed that viral videos of heavily armed militants were seen boasting that they had entered Igboland to attack the residents.

A statement issued at the weekend by the Vice Chairman of APGA, South-East zone, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, condemned what the party called a ‘brazen attack’ on Governor Alex Otti’s advance team on December 2, 2025, along the Imo–Abia corridor.

According to APGA, the daily killings and kidnappings in Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Imo states, and the recent abduction of students in some other states, confirm the sign that ‘the enemy is already inside our bushes and forests.’

“APGA South-East Zone, as the only truly indigenous political party in Igboland, hereby demands immediate and joint action from the governors of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states as follows:

“Convene within the next seven days an Emergency South-East Governors’ Security Summit in any of the state capitals (Enugu, Awka, Umuahia, Abakaliki or Owerri) to adopt a unified, aggressive regional security strategy. Jointly deploy reinforced security,” Ehiemere said.

APGA, which called for patrols along all inter-state boundaries and highways across the South-East, said that the Anambra Vigilante model pioneered by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo should be replicated across the five states in the region.

The party, which also called for the empowering of traditional rulers, presidents-general, and other credible leaders in communities, said that local vigilante units should be established, funded, and strictly monitored to comb and secure the forests in the South-East.

While demanding the establishment of joint forward-operating bases with the military and police in all identified flashpoints, APGA South-East zone commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for their bold moves towards amending the Nigerian Constitution to allow the creation of state police.
