Leader of the APC in Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, former Governor and senator representing Borno central, Kashim Shettima, former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, national and state assembly members and many other political stakeholders on Saturday gathered at the Elkanemi Warriors Sports Centre in Maiduguri, for the All Progressive Congress (APC) state congress.
Hon Ali Bukar Dalori, who was the state’s party Chairman, before cabinet dissolution, was reelected as consensus candidate, after a unanimous voice affirmation by all delegates. Other state executives were also elected on consensus.
A former Deputy Governor of Taraba state, Uba Maigari, who Chaired the APC’s congress committee, declared Dalori winner of the congress, after which the reelected chairman was inaugurated alongside state party executives.
“By the authority vested in me, by the Chairman, National Caretaker Committee, of the APC extra ordinary comvention planning committee, under the leadership of Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni who appointed us to conduct the APC congress here in Borno State, I have the singular honour to declare that 2021 Borno APC congress is concluded” Maigari announced.
He explained that the party’s constitution (Article 20 sub 1 & 2 ) recognizes election or affirmation of consensus candidates for state congresses, noting that the APC in Borno state “continue (s) to defy all the problems that exist in other states. It has continue to present a united front as one party made up of people who respect themselves, give honour to whom honour is due. APC members in Borno state settled for consensus candidates as their new party leaders and that is what we adopted”.
In his address to APC stakeholders at the congress, Governor Zulum,pledged that the APC in Borno state will by the grace of God, grow stronger under his leadership.
“The APC will by God’s grace become even stronger than ever before. Let me use this opportunity to convey my deep appreciation to the national congress committee to the Chairman and members of the congress committee for this assignment” Zulum said
The Governor thanked the party delegates for coming up with the consensus idea to promote unity and for conducting themselves peacefully during the hitchfree exercise.
Zulum also commended the Borno state congress committee led by the Deputy Governor of Borno state, Umar Usman Kadafur, for organizing the congress in a disciplined, organized and colourful way.
Earlier on, Chairman of state planning committee, Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, welcomed all delegates and party stakeholders and assured of hitch free congress.
He thanked Governor Zulum for giving his committee all the necessary support to ensure the success of the congress.
In his victory speech, reelected APC chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori pledged to carry all members on board and work for the success of the party at all levels.
The returned executive members also include Kala Maina Monguno, Deputy chairman Alhaji Garba Mulima, Second Deputy Chairman; Alhaji Zannah Babakura Habib, State vice chairman Central, Alhaji Aliyu Yerima State vice Chairman South and Hon Mustapha Gadobe state vice Chairman North.
Hon Ayuba Bello is the State secretary, Makinta Zarami, publicity secretary, Hajiya Fati Ka’kinna Women leader, Mohammed Babandoki, Youth Chairman along with 26 others.
