Angry Residents of Ilu Abo in Akure North local Government area of Ondo State on Tuesday morning barricaded the Akure–Owo Road to protest what they described rising as Insecurity across the state.

Tuesday’s protest followed another attack that reportedly left two persons dead and three others abducted.

The attack was said to have occured on Monday night when heavily armed men invaded the Ilu-Abo area, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents before abducting three persons.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that one of the victims was shot during the attack and later died from the gunshot wounds, while the gunmen whisked away three other residents to an unknown destination.

Angered by the development, residents took to the streets early Tuesday, blocking the busy Akure–Owo expressway and bringing vehicular movement to a standstill

Some of the protesters were also seen carrying the lifeless body of the victim while chanting protest songs and demanding urgent government intervention to address the persistent insecurity around the airport road and adjoining communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal who addressed the protesters persuaded them to allow free flow of traffic, assuring that additional policemen and tactical units will be deployed to check the insecurity.

Lawal pleaded with the residents that the security agencies including the State Security Network codenamed Amotekun, and the Police would ensure the safety of lives and properties and would beef up security in the communities.

The Police chief also visited the monarch of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae, and told him the efforts being made by security agencies to curb insecurity in the town.
