Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have neutralized two suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in an early morning operation along Eziowelle Road, recovering an AK-47 rifle and a pump-action gun.*
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Tuesday, August 19, 2026, that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on credible intelligence that a gang of suspected armed robbers/kidnappers had been sighted in the area.
According to him, the hoodlums opened fire on sighting the police team, leading to a gun duel. During the encounter, two suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun and five live cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command remains committed to sustaining intelligence-led and proactive operations to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
Ikenga added that investigations have commenced and efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang.
He assured that further developments will be communicated accordingly.
