My dear compatriots, my brothers and sisters, children of this great, wounded land,

From the lush Niger Delta to the soaring Mambilla Plateau, from the bustling streets of Lagos to the ancient walls of Kano, we are bound by a shared story. A story of unparalleled potential, of resilience that defies logic, and of a spirit that refuses to be broken. Yet, we must, with heavy hearts, admit that this story is also etched with deep scars; scars of division, of mistrust, and of a silence that screams louder than any protest.

Today, I do not come to you with a political slogan or an empty promise. I come with a plea from the soul, a remedy that is as ancient as it is revolutionary. It is not found in a foreign loan, nor in the rhetoric of any leader. It is found within the moral compass of each and every one of us. It is a simple, profound, and terrifyingly powerful three-word charge: Be On Truth.

Our nation aches for healing. This healing will not begin in the hallowed halls of the National Assembly or behind the gates of Aso Rock. It will begin in your home, in my market stall, in his office, in her classroom. It begins the moment we choose, individually and collectively, to anchor ourselves to the rock of truth.

To Speak the Truth is to wage war against the falsehoods that enslave us. It is to look a relative in the eye and refuse to endorse a lie, even for family. It is to stand in your workplace and call a fraud by its name, even when silence is more comfortable. It is to reject the false narrative that pits brother against brother, Christian against Muslim, indigene against settler. It is to say, “This is wrong,” when everyone else is nodding. Every whispered truth chips away at the mountain of deception that crushes our progress.

To Defend the Truth is to become a soldier for integrity. It is to protect the colleague who spoke up. It is to stand with the journalist who is harassed for exposing corruption. It is to amplify the voice of the vulnerable whose truth is drowned out by the powerful. Defending the truth means we can no longer be mere spectators to injustice. When we see a lie being used to destroy a person, a community, or our national fabric, we must rise. We must say, “I am a Nigerian, and I will not let this stand.” Our silence is complicity; our voice is our sovereignty.

To Always Be On the Side of Truth is the ultimate act of patriotism. It is a lifelong commitment. It means that when truth becomes inconvenient, when it costs us a contract, a friendship, or even a vote, we choose it anyway. It means evaluating every policy, every leader, and every action through one simple lens: “Is this true? Is this honest? Is this just?” It requires the courage to condemn the wrongdoing of our own preferred leaders with the same fervour we condemn the opposition’s. Partial truth is whole lies.

You may ask, “In a system so rotten, what difference can my small truth make?”

I tell you this: A nation is nothing but the sum of its people’s choices. Our collective silence built these walls of impunity. Our collective voice, grounded in truth, will tear them down. Truth is the foundation upon which trust is built. Without it, contracts are worthless, promises are empty, and handshakes are meaningless. With it, we can begin to believe again. We can invest, not just money, but hope in one another.

This is not the easy path. It is the difficult, narrow path that leads to redemption. There will be moments of fear, of isolation. But I promise you, with every fibre of my being: you will never have cause to regret choosing truth.

You will never regret the dignity that comes with an clean conscience. You will never regret the respect you earn from those who matter. You will never regret building a legacy of integrity for your children, instead of an inheritance of ill-gotten wealth that comes with a curse. You will never regret being on the right side of history.

The healing of Nigeria is not a spectator sport. It is a daily practice. It is a million acts of courage in a million moments of choice.

Let us rise, today, and make a new covenant with ourselves and with our beloved country. Let us become citizens of truth. Let us build a Nigeria where our children are proud to say, “My parent did not look away. They spoke. They defended. They stood on the side of truth.”

That Nigeria is possible. It starts with you. It starts now.

Speak the Truth. Defend the Truth. Always be on the side of Truth.

For Naija, we must.

Yours in faith and solidarity, A Believer in Nigeria
