A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of popular social critic Justice Chidebere, widely known as “Justice Crack,” in the custody of the State Security Services (SSS).

Justice Chidebere appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on a three-count charge including alleged cybercrime, felony, and breach of public peace. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Following the plea, SSS counsel Mark Oruba moved for the defendant to be remanded, citing “the interest of public security.”

While the defense team opposed the move—noting they intend to file a formal bail application later this week—Justice Abdulmalik ultimately ordered that Chidebere remain in SSS custody.

The court has adjourned until May 25 for the commencement of the trial and the hearing of the bail application.

The legal trouble stems from a social media post regarding military welfare. In a statement released Saturday, May 2, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, confirmed that “Justice Crack” was arrested after sharing content featuring soldiers complaining about their feeding and living conditions.

However, the Nigerian Army alleges the influencer’s motives went beyond advocacy. According to Colonel Anele, a deeper investigation revealed that Chidebere’s interactions were an attempt to incite discontent and subvert the military system.

The case continues to draw significant attention online, highlighting the thin line between social activism and national security concerns
