Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has conducted a pre-delivery inspection of Ibom Air’s third brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Airbus facility in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada.
The inspection on Friday, August 14, 2026, is ahead of the aircraft’s delivery and planned entry into service before the 2026 Christmas and end-of-year travel season.
Governor Eno said the acquisition reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening Ibom Air’s fleet and operational capacity. He added that the new aircraft will increase capacity, improve scheduling flexibility and offer passengers more reliable travel options.
According to him, the investment goes beyond fleet expansion. “It will improve operational efficiency, passenger comfort and service delivery while expanding Ibom Air’s network,” Eno said. He noted that enhanced connectivity will support the State’s tourism drive by improving access to Akwa Ibom, attracting more visitors and promoting trade and investment under the “Destination Akwa Ibom” initiative.
Wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, Ibom Air began operations in 2019 and entered the international market in June 2026 with flights from Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr. George Uriesi, said the A220-300 is ideal for the airline’s network strategy and will support its growth objectives.
He added that the airline’s first two A220s, currently undergoing comprehensive checks, are expected back in service by the end of September 2026. With the new delivery, Ibom Air’s A220 fleet will rise to three aircraft.
Also speaking, Guillaume Chevasson, Head of A220 Programme and CEO of Airbus Canada, described the A220-300 as fuel efficient with strong performance for domestic and regional routes. He assured of Airbus’s continued partnership with Ibom Air.
Present at the event were Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, members of the State Executive Council, and Ibom Air management staff.
